Amphora Designs Beadwork & Workshops by Maggie Meister Inspired by ancient mosaics, frescos and jewelry

Tekla's Cuff
Tekla's Cuff

Tekla was an Empress during the Byzantine Era and also the name of my wonderful Aunt.  This cuff was inspired by the jewelry worn by royalty in the Byzantine Era.  Jewelry from this era was no longer as simplistic as the jewelry made in Roman times.  Pieces were adorned with precious and semi-precious jewels and were large and elaborate.  These pieces were made as such not only to show the importance of the royal person but to also to draw attention away from the human body.

Tekla’s Cuff uses a metal armature (provided in workshop at the cost of $18.00) covered with herringbone and peyote stitch and embellished with freshwater pearls or semi-precious stones.  There is homework prior to be completed prior to the workshop.  Participants will learn to combine these stitches, how to cover a form, bezel beads and stones.
